The tools in the Productivity module ask questions. These tools are intended to provide a structured approach for seeking answers to root causes of those activities, actions or waste that limit Productivity.
Removing waste and non-value-added activities begins with asking questions. It is a necessary step towards identifying a solution.
Productivity Tools
Fishbone (or Cause & Effect) Diagram and Spaghetti Diagram are tools to identify and remove waste and non-value added activities. 5 Whys and “6W 2H – What, Where, When, Which, Who, How & How Much” are tools that help asks questions in a structured manner. Involving key members from your production line (such as production supervisors, team leads, production planners, lead hands, etc.) will result in better insights.

Remember, it is not necessary to use all tools for each project. Review the instructions for each tool before selecting the appropriate tool and resist the desire to jump to a solution!
“Our productivity project looked at micro-stops on the production line – small stops that have an impact down the line. It was a guideline that mainstreams solutions to eliminate micro-stops. The result is a more productive and happier team. It’s the ‘work smarter not harder’ method.”
