What is the Process?

With the Value Stream Map (VSM) well underway, the next step is to identify, select and measure one or two key areas from the VSM where deeper insights into process performance is required.

There are often many “end of line” performance measures – yield, labour hours per unit, labour $ per unit, capacity utilization, daily production units, among many others – however these measurements do not always speak to process performance during a production run. Additional measurements – specific to areas identified on the VSM and from the Gemba Walk – will help determine the improvement efforts.

The last step for the Process module is to take this new data and make it visual and quantity the value if improved.
